Shoes for Afghanistan Update

Millions of people turn to Facebook Marketplace each month to sell their things, find great deals or ask for stuff from their friends. Last Friday I wrote about a particular Marketplace listing that caught our attention. Facebook member Tania was asking her friends for closed-toe shoes to help the women and children of Afghanistan.  In the listing, she includes a heart-wrenching email from an American soldier (surgeon) who was treating patients with nothing to put on their feet in the freezing weather.

As a result of friends sharing the listing with friends, Tania received responses from around the world, including ours, offering Oodle’s offices as a drop-off point for the shoes. My boss also offered to pay for the shipping to the American Hospital.

Since my blog post on Friday, Sun, Oracle and Cisco have started mini-drives. Audubon has also offered to be a drop-off point in Marin (in addition to EcoFabulous, which anted up shoes and its SF offices early on day one). Meanwhile, we received more than 200 pairs of shoes today here at Oodle that we quickly packed in boxes heading for the women and children who need them now.

If you are interested in donating shoes, please drop them off in one of the following locations – and feel free to share Tania’s listing with friends as she hopes to keep the drive going all winter:
