Opening up Access to the API

We have had a lot of requests to use the Oodle API since we launched it a few months ago. A handful of site are live (or will be very soon) including local sites such as backpage, backfence, and examiner.com as well as vertical sites such imotorlist and citycribs. More will be rolling in the next few weeks…

To help make it more broadly available, we’ve moved most of the API process online. Interested parties should check out www.oodle.com/info/api.

Sites can use the API to both strengthen their offering (by enabling their users to more easily find what they’re looking for) and introduce a new revenue stream. Sites that use the API are eligible for our affiliate program where sites are compensated based on the clicks they generate (to the links provided by the API). Sites need to generate more than 10k refers a month to qualify.

  1. If you really want webdevelopers to use your API to allow customers access to your listings, you must make your documenttaion better with more examples of the use of the API.

  3. Mahendra,

Thanks for your feedback! Improving the API documentation is a priority on the API team right now. We’ve talked about it a lot and work is underway to make it better. You — and all the other users of it — can definitely expect to see improvements to it soon. Do you have particular examples you’d like to see or particular code samples that would be most helpful?

  5. what would be helpful would be first an over view of the how the API process will work.
Then we need clear explanations of each of the methods and the syntex and example what type of values can be used.

More details on how to use and structures of rpc calls with example
How the values will be returned in exact format with examples.

Then may be some complete full examples of uses of the API. The over view and explanation of what the code dies and also the code must include sensible comments.

    We are using PHP 4.x/mysql.

what we want to do is display paginated results of a search based on a key word.
The listed result will first show results from our database and then the oodle result will be appended at the end of it. The listing will paginate depending on how mant records to display per the page.

In another part of our site we need to show results based on search criteria using category, field values like city, area etc.
